Friday, May 5th, is Cinco de Mayo!
Cinco de Mayo celebrates the victory of the Mexican army over the invading French at the Battle of Puebla. The battle, which took place on May 5th, 1862, was the first time the French military had known defeat in decades. While the holiday is a relatively small regional celebration in Mexico, it became a large-scale celebration of Mexican heritage and culture in the U.S. We have a more in-depth look at Cinco de Mayo’s history on the Pearl District Portfolio blog.
Portland has our very own Cinco De Mayo celebration at the Tom McCall Waterfront Park every year with live music, food, and artisan vendors! Check it out at https://cincodemayoportland.com/.
