March is Women's History Month, a 31 day observation of women's achievements. In honor of this celebration, the Pearl District Portfolio is excited to highlight our extraordinary women-owned businesses. Our amazing tenants demonstrate their expertise and creativity in all they do, ranging from real estate to fashion and beauty to art.
Judie Dunken Real Estate
If you spent time in the Pearl District, there's a pretty good chance you know the name Judie Dunken. She's been prominent in Portland real estate since 1996. Judie recently moved her office into the Maytag Building, and we couldn’t be happier to have Judie Dunken Real Estate as a tenant! You may recognize her cleaning up with the Clean Team or coordinating other philanthropic endeavors throughout the Pearl District. Judie is also a powerhouse in the neighborhood association, holding an astonishing number of positions, including the Livability and Safety Committee Chair and the Pearl Business Support Committee, and Co-Chair for the Pearl District Neighborhood Association (PDNA). Judie is also on the newly formed NW Community Conservancy (NWCC) board, working on humanitarian/ security solutions for the Pearl District.

J Pepin Art Gallery
Hope. Dream. Believe.
Our newest tenant, Jennifer Pepin, has just opened her gallery this month in the Maytag Building!
J. Pepin Art Gallery is a contemporary art gallery reframing the perception of mental illness to be one of mental health. Along with their work, the artists share their own journeys with mental health creating a much-needed dialog. “We all have mental health, as we do physical health, and we shouldn’t be ashamed to talk about it,” Jennifer said.
Founded in 2013, the gallery features 14 artists and jewelry makers, offering an array of styles, mediums, and sizes.
Working together, the landscape of mental health can be one of hope, dreams, and believing in a more accepting world

L'mu Salon

Sheila McCoy is the owner and operator of L'mu Salon, and she's an expert in beauty.
L'Mu is, in Sheila's words, "an acronym (kind of) that means Let's Make up." Sheila practices a “Philosophy of Forgiveness” at L'Mu. Her salon is a safe place for clients to leave any judgment on appearance while allowing themselves to be pampered - self-care at its best! While she specializes in facials and waxing, she offers over a dozen treatments, each customized to meet the specific needs of the individual client.
“I am a solopreneur, and my Skincare practice has been in the Pearl District since 2002. I’ve been featuring Guinot Products for more than 10yrs, and see the need to expand the treatment line to address many of the concerns women and men face today.”
In May, she’ll introduce Hydraderm Vital Energy, an exclusive, 50-minute treatment using patented Guinot technology to firm, lift, and rejuvenate the skin.

Soullovey
Tina focuses on not only giving her clients beautiful high-quality hair but also educating her clients so that they can continue to achieve beautiful results at home and long after their appointment. Specializing in techniques that leave a client's hair looking healthy, beautiful, and flattering as it grows. She feels that giving her clients knowledge and advice on styling techniques, product selection, and hot tool choices is paramount so that the client can maintain their desired look from each appointment to the next.
Tina Jackson is the owner and operator of Soullovey Salon, a woman-owned salon welcoming people of all different hair types, hairstyles, and lifestyles. Her safe-space salon has found its place in the Pearl District as it continues to expand and grow to meet the needs of her diverse clientele.

Acting for Kids and Teens Portland
Katie O’Grady founded Acting for Kids & Teens, the Northwest’s premier studio for young actors! Her resume is more than impressive: she has 20+ years of experience in tv and film, and her credits include shows on Netflix, NBC, IFC, Showtime, and hundreds of commercials. She even made it onto Hollywood Reporter’s Oscar Watch List for her role in the film Rid of Me.

Pippa Arend and Claire Olberding

The 13th Street Lofts is now home to the studio of two fabulous artists - Pippa Arend and Claire Olberding!
Pippa Arend is a local artist who works primarily with portraiture and shows work across the state. Sharing the studio with dancer and artist Claire Olberding, they’ll have more to tell about their plans in the near future!
Claire Olberding will teach private dance lessons in the space, leading small group choreography and dance composition workshops, showing her work and the work of others in what will become a gallery space, and hosting visual art workshops.

Susi Davis
Susi Davis has been painting pet portraits and stunning landscapes for nearly a decade. She’s also illustrated four books! In her 13th Street, Pearl District studio, she has the space to grow her body of work and increase her painting classes, now open for all experience levels.
Susi has been a watercolor artist for most of her career, best known for pet portraits and book illustrations. Susi also captures nature and enjoys "Passionately painting somewhat abstract landscapes and wildlife and hoping to capture the fragile and beautiful world we all live in."
Her most popular class is Paint Your Pet Portrait ( she makes it easy by pre-sketching). Other classes include; Intro to Watercolor, Intro to Acrylic Techniques, and Acrylic Pour, and her classes are open to burgeoning artists of all ages and skill levels. Susi’s senior classes are especially near and dear to her. She greatly enjoys sharing her craft with groups from senior living centers, which are "designed for challenges we face as we age."
