Connect with your Community: Welcome PDBA Executive Director Laura McDermott

Laura McDermott, the new Executive Director of the Pearl District Business Association (PDBA).

The Pearl District Business Association has new leadership.

We chatted with Laura McDermott about her new role and her goals for the organization in 2021. Laura began as PDBA’s Executive Director about a month ago, learning the ropes from her predecessor, Julie Gustavson, who held the organization together during one of the most challenging times in our history.

Laura feels optimistic about the future, and while learning the ins and outs of the organization, is focused on fostering community and growth. Her goal is to build the PDBA so that “Every business in the Pearl is participating in the organization.”

Her goal resonates well with local businesses. The Pearl District Business Association's mission is to promote the Pearl District as the region’s premier destination for dining, shopping, art, and living. That means a healthy and thriving business community.

The PDBA’s goal of enhancing the vitality of businesses by providing value to members and the community is exactly what the Pearl District needs, especially after such a challenging year. But Laura wants to do more than just grow the list of businesses, she believes the association should also be about relationships and connections.

“Fun, that’s my main thing,” she said of running a business association, “There’s a serious portion to it, but it does have to be fun. I want people to have fun when they’re participating in this association.”

Laura also believes the connections and camaraderie are important. “I want it to be really comfortable,” she said, “and I want everybody to feel great about being around everyone else.”

Corgis and Horses!

Laura shares her life with her adorable Corgi, Timber (or Tim for short) and spends part of her free time volunteering at a horse rescue.

She loves karaoke! The self-described “Karaoke Queen” is known to “Really put on a show” on the mic. A Karaoke dance party (virtual or not)may be in the PDBA’s future!
